Creator Guide · 2026
The exact formula brands use to judge your profile — and how you stack up.
The Formula
(Likes + Comments) ÷ Followers × 100
Add total likes and comments on a post, divide by your follower count, multiply by 100. That's your engagement rate as a percentage.
Worked Example
Followers
Your current count
Avg. likes + comments
200 likes + 25 comments per post
Engagement rate
225 ÷ 5,000 × 100
2026 Benchmarks
Nano
1K – 10K followers
Micro
10K – 50K followers
Mid-tier
50K – 200K followers
Macro / Mega
200K+ followers
Why It Matters
A 50K creator at 5% engagement reaches more real people per post than a 500K creator at 1%. Brands increasingly check this number before follower count.
Watch Out For
Bought followers tank your engagement rate instantly — and brands notice. A smaller, real audience always out-converts a padded one.
People Also Ask
Why do small accounts have higher rates?
Smaller audiences feel more personal — a bigger share of them actually likes and comments.
Should I include saves and shares?
For a quick check, likes + comments is enough. For a fuller picture, add saves and shares too.
